Kenneth Atkins

Kenneth Atkins, 67, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Kenneth, fondly known as Ken or Kenny, was born to Hobby and Vera Atkins on August 28, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, where he resided most of his life until he moved to Tennessee in 2001.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Hobby Charles Atkins and his mother Vera Madeline Carr Atkins, his sisters Kathleen Atkins and Melvina Sanders Reynolds, his brother Hobby Atkins, his youngest son Kristopher H. Atkins, step-son Michael James Sassin Skutnik, his niece and nephew Regina and James Sanders he helped raise/loved as his own, his grandson Dominick Doxtater, his first wife and the mother of his two oldest children Sharon E. LaSure Atkins, his second wife the mother of his other 4 children in which was friends for over 42 years Maggie Darline Atkins/Johnson.

Kenneth is survived by his brother Jimmy Atkins, his children Christina Atkins Swecker/Steven “Waldo”, Kyla Atkins George, Kenneth L. Atkins/Lisa, Kelly D. Atkins Walsh/Elijah, Kandy A. Atkins Brooks/Richard “Trevor”, Taylor Duane, his step-children Michael Adams, Marietta Ante, Daniel Overby, his caretaker and ex-wife Jamie Overby. He had so many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces n nephews, great nieces n nephews its too many to list. But as everyone knew Khali M. Genova was his favorite!

Kenneth was an amazing father, brother, and uncle that loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, nieces n nephews unconditionally. He loved to make people laugh. Loved acting goofy with his grandchildren. He was a truck driver most of his life. He was a talented pool player. And in his younger years he loved a game of basketball. In which he was a very big Detroit Pistons fan. But he enjoyed spending his free time playing a game of pool. He truly cared for his lifelong friends Rebecca-jo Phillips and Janet Stefanko.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Memorial Centers Friday March 10, 2023, from 12 to 2 PM. Graveside services will follow immediately at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Virginia, with Doctor Kenneth Calvert officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven “Waldo” Morelock, Richard “Trevor” Brooks, Elijah Walsh, Billy Meade, Roger, Kenneth L. Atkins Sr., Kenneth L. Atkins Jr., Austin Hinkle, and Tink Meade.
