Edna Lorene Coffman Ballard
Edna Ballard, 85, a long-time resident of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in Kingsport, TN.
Born April 26, 1932 in Crystal, Ar to Thomas A and Mollie Coffman, Edna was the youngest of six children. Raised in Southeast Kansas, she was married to Lyle G. Ballard from 1951 until his death in 2011.
Edna worked as a registered nurse at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge from 1974 until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed visiting the Smoky Mountain area attractions, was an avid fan of TN Vols Football and Lady Vols Basketball, and she loved to sew, crochet and knit.
In addition to her mother, father and husband, Edna was preceded in death by sisters Vada French and Mildred Sample, and brothers Troy, Ernest and James (J.C.) Coffman.
She is survived by daughter Carol Berry (Ray) of Kingsport, TN; son Rick Ballard (Carol) of Vienna, WV; daughter Mary Ballard of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren Amanda Mendoza (Cesar); Adam Berry (Kim); Katie Pozzuoli (Joe) and Mollie Edwards (Daniel); ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jean Ballard, Baxter Springs, KS; Helen Coffman, Pittsburg, KS; Nadine Coffman, Denver, CO; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Patsy, Melissa, Ben and Dr. Kimberly Roller with Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their love and care; also her extended family, the staff and residents of Brookdale of Kingsport, whom Edna dearly loved.
Services will be held Saturday, October 14, at Black Oak Baptist Church of Clinton, TN with visitation at 12:00 noon and funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment will be immediately after in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the “Cemetery Fund”, Black Oak Baptist Church, 236 Black Oak Road, Clinton, TN 37716.
