Walton Carter, 87, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9th, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born in Ft. Myers, Florida in 1932. He was a graduate of Ft. Myers Senior High School class of 1951. Walt entered the Navy in 1952 where he fought in the Korean War. He was proud of his service. After coming home from the service he became an electrical engineer for the Lee County Electric Coop where he worked for 18 years. During this time he made many lifelong friends. In 1971 he met the love of his life purely by accident, she lived in the same apartment building. After a whirlwind 7 month courtship they were wed. They were happily married for 47 and a half years. In 1979 they moved to Valdosta, GA where they owned and operated an IGA grocery store. In 1982 they moved to Greensboro, GA where they owned and operated The Townehouse Restaurant and retired from. The family moved to West Virginia and then eventually Kingsport, TN. Walt was a Mason and a member of the Noah Lodge in North Ft. Myers for 51 years. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing with his son. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius Carter and Irene Holstlaw; sister, Anne Mefford. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 1/2 years, Carol; son, Steve (Woodruff, SC); brothers, Ralph (Naples, FL), Donald (Jacksonville, FL); brothers-in-law, Robert and wife Karen Varney, Gary and wife Anetha Varney, and Lesley and wife Rosie Varney; sister-in-law, Benita and husband Jimmy Barker.
