Walter Douglas Arnold, 91, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Born in Abingdon VA, Walter was a proud veteran and devoted family man, spending his life serving others with kindness and dedication.
He worked as an auto mechanic for 43 years at Gate City Ford, formerly known as King Ford. Walter had a deep love for gospel music and enjoyed watching TV Westerns every day throughout his declining health. A faithful member of Colonial Heights Christian Church, he cherished his church community and their support.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his loving son, Larry Arnold; sisters Maxie Cumbow and Ruth "Ann" Wolff; brothers Millard "Clayton" Arnold, Bobby Arnold, and Max Arnold.
He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Imogene Arnold; daughter, Donna Horton (Jeff); brothers Bill Arnold (Eloise) and Allen "Baker" Arnold; Jay Arnold (Lula); and a number of other beloved family members and friends. His love and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Curtis Jantzi, his nurse Tina, and the Amedisys Hospice nurses Amanda, Sierra, and Sarah who cared for Walter in his later years.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at Trinity Memorial on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow, officiated by Minister David Mullins of Colonial Heights Christian Church.
Graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, VA, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with military honors provided by American Legion Hammonds Post 3 / Gate City 265.
