Velma Joan Freeman, 68, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. Born September 25, 1953, in Lakewood, Ohio, Velma grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. Velma was very family oriented and loved and cared for everyone. She was known as “Mutter” to her great-grandchildren, Red and Booger. She was a good sugar Mama to Mario. Velma loved to travel, and especially enjoyed her Mothers Day cruise to the Bahamas. She was our ROCK. She was everybodys go-to. Velma loved pork chops, corn bread, and rice with tomatoes. “A bushel, a peck, a hug around the neck. Kiss, kiss. Love, love,” from Dionna. Velma is preceded in death by her mother, Emma Smith; ex-husband, Jerry Freeman; siblings, Brenda Bowen, Jerry Smith, Ronnie Smith, Terry Smith; son-in-law, Eric McClellan; grandsons Eric Ferguson, Nick Jackson; several nieces and nephews. Those left to cherish her memory are Velmas sister, Arlene Smith (Nurys) children, Melissa Mullins, Jerry Freeman, Jr., Shannon Ferguson (Mary Ellen), Amy Livesay (Shawn) , Amanda Freeman (Mario), Maryann Olterman (Art), Jerry Freeman (Megan); grandchildren, Phillip Mullins, Dionna Freeman, Alex Mullins, Alyson Hilliard (Matthew), Anndria Mullins, Stephen Mullins, Trae Freeman, Kyiara Freeman, Ashley Ferguson, Nikeeta Allen (Michael), Dakota Fink; Amrick Christian great-grandchildren, Uriah Hughes “Red”, Elias Hilliard “Booger”, Willow Mullins, Raylee Mullins, Abigail Mullins, on the way; sister-in-law, Barbara Smith; several nieces and nephews. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Trinity Memorial Services, 1221 Stewball Circle, Kingsport, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Memorial, in the name of Velma Freeman will help to defer funeral expenses. Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the Freeman family.
