Theresa Elizabeth Sloan

February 26, 1951 - December 27, 2020

Theresa (Milewski) Sloan (2/26/51-12/27/20), age 69, passed away in Kingsport, TN after heart bypass surgery. Loving mother of Brandon D. Sloan, dear sister of Barbara Zarek, Irene (Steven) Blackburn, and MaryAnn Milewski, and loving aunt of Jacqueline Kostovski, Amanda Stanko, Angela Zarek (Sanjay) Dadd, and Christy Zarek Thomas; and great aunt of Hailey and Allison Kostovski.

Theresa was born in Detroit, MI to Genevieve (Celmer) and Felix Milewski and attended elementary and high school at St. Andrews in Detroit, MI (class of 1969), where she focused on business education and enjoyed being a cheerleader. She then attended the Detroit College of Business and received an associate degree in business, and then worked as a legal secretary and bookkeeper. Later, Theresa earned a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Geological engineering from New Mexico Tech University, and worked as a Petroleum engineer at Yates Petroleum in New Mexico, then for Oil companies in Michigan and later in Tennessee. A point of interest: At one point, she was told she struck oil more than anyone else at the firm. She was a member of the Association of Petroleum Engineers and served on the board of local chapters.

Theresa was a fun and loving spirit, always nurturing her dogs, cats and birds. She dedicated her life to raising her son, Brandon, her pride and joy, who particated in Math competitions and swimming in high school. Later, he graduated from University of Tennessee in computer science, and is now working in TX as a computer science engineer. Her favorite place to live was northern Michigan, and enjoyed its beaches in the summer, and cross-country skiing in the winter. She touched the hearts of many and will be truly missed.

Memorial is online only at Trinity Memorial Center in Kingsport, TN. Services will be private.

Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the Sloan family.

Comments

I will miss my friend Theresa, especially her smile & laugh that could light up a room. I met Theresa at NMC in Traverse City when she was starting out on earning her petroleum engineering degree and have stayed in touch ever since. I have fond memories of spending time with her and Brandon when they lived in Traverse City, as well as, after they moved away and would come back for visits.
My prayers go out to Brandon, MaryAnn, Irene, Barbara & all the family.
With deep sympathy, Pam Weisler
