Rogersville

Ruby Lee Lyda, 78, of Rogersville, TN, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Ruby lived a life rich in experience and love. She held many occupations throughout her life, retiring in Hendersonville before moving to Rogersville in 2002. There, she worked for the Hawkins County School System in the cafeteria until her full retirement, at which point she dedicated herself to her family, flower gardens, and birds.

Ruby was a woman of many wonderful qualities. She was a deeply caring person who loved her family wholeheartedly. Her laughter and voice could brighten anyone's day, and she was always straightforward and honest. Ruby had a knack for storytelling, and her kindness, patience, and fearless spirit were truly remarkable. She was easy to talk to, always made time to listen, and was sweet, one of a kind, fun, and lively.

She had a green thumb and loved sharing her plants, flowers, and gardening knowledge. She was attentive to her husband and family, loved her birds, and ensured they were always fed and housed. She lived a very happy life filled with family, friends, and her beloved pets. Ruby was thrifty, resourceful, a nature lover, and hard-working. She loved adventures and never met a stranger.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Louise Johnson; her brothers, James Johnson, Clarence Johnson, Paul Johnson, John Johnson, and Charles Johnson; her grandson, Zach Lyda; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Clyde Lyda Jr., and their furbaby, Chloe of Rogersville; daughters Kathy Cox and Patty Cox of Flat Rock; stepsons Randy Lyda and Ed Lyda and his wife Wanda of Brevard; grandchildren Brittany and Roxanne Blackwell, Kyle, Chelsea, and Tyler Lyda, Ed Lyda Jr. and his wife Hannah, Lucas Lyda, Drew Queen and his wife Jessica, and Brody Queen and his wife Lyndsay; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby will be greatly missed, but the love she shared will continue to live in our memories forever. A drop-in to honor Ruby will be held on September 8th from 3-5 PM at Mills River Community Center, 120 School House Rd, Mills River, NC 28759.
