Ronny Lee Reid, 87, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on December 28, 2024, with his family by his side.
Ron was born on April 3, 1937, in Spanishburg, WV, to the late Nash and Janie Reid. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Cindy Belcher, Keith Reid, and Lauren Brogden; his grandchildren, Adam Hunsucker, Ryan Reid, Allie Reid, and Violet Brogden; and his ex-wife and friend, Nancy Reid. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Barbor; his brother, Larry Reid; his first wife, Beatrice Reid, who predeceased him at a young age; and his best friend, David Griffith.
After graduating from Spanishburg High School, where he was a standout basketball player, Ron served as a medic in the Army. Following his military service, he found work in a wide range of settings, from the oil fields of New Mexico to the GM assembly line in Baltimore, and eventually focused on his longest-running endeavor, his own company, Reid Erectors. For many years, Ron traveled across the country installing conveyor systems. He was known for his intelligence and ingenuity.
In his personal life, Ron was a quiet, reserved man who showed his love through acts of service. He cherished watching his son, Keith, and grandson, Ryan play football and was a loyal presence at his daughter Lauren’s cross-country meets and basketball games. Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, including a memorable trip to the Canadian wilderness and a fishing excursion in Costa Rica. Later, Ron developed a passion for golf and became an accomplished player. An avid car enthusiast, Ron had a particular fondness for BMWs, often spending time in his garage working on them. Ron also had a deep love for animals, reflected in his affection for his dogs Tara, his loyal companion for many years, and Bo, who brought him joy in his later years.
Receiving of Friends will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 East Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
