Paul Rudolph Compton

August 12, 1922 — April 8, 2023

Saturday, April 8th 2023, Honored WWII Veteran, Rudolph "Rudy" Paul Compton, left this earth to join his bride and stroll through the gates of heaven.
This past August, Rudy celebrated his 100th birthday where he was presented with The Honorable Service Lapel Pin, colloquially called the "Ruptured Duck", for his time served in the Army during WWII. He was a hero to our country and to his family. Upon returning from the service, Rudy worked at Eastman and retired after 43 years of hard work and dedication.
Rudy was a member of the Cherokee Rod and Gun club where he won several awards in skeet shooting , including the coveted sharp shooter trophy. When he wasn't showing up the youngsters at the gun club, you could find him piddling around in his garage or walking by the river. His grandchildren loved to hear him do bird calls and he never missed a chance to explore the river with them. He was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who never missed a Sunday service at West View Baptist Church even when his Atlanta Braves were playing!
Rudy and his bride, Rusty, resided in the city of Kingsport where together they had 3 beautiful children: Gregory, Diane, and Kimberly. They married November 27th of 1952 and remained madly in love for 70 years. They taught their children to love unconditionally, respect everyone, the importance of an honest day's work, and above all to honor the Lord. Words cannot describe the compassion and integrity these two encompass. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Rudy and Rusty were witness to the abundance of love they shared with each other and their unwavering enthusiasm to make everyone feel welcome. It is only fitting they were welcomed into the gates of heaven on the same day, just 8 short hours apart. Although they will be dearly missed, their loved ones find comfort that their love story continues into eternity.
Rudy is survived by his son, Gregory Compton and Janice of Kennesaw, GA; daughter, Diane Blevins and Chester of Surgoinsville, TN; daughter, Kimberly Compton of Kingsport, TN; Grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Jordon, and Caitlin; and great-grandchildren, Austen, Coulter, Carter, Cohen, Nolan, Ellis, and Nora; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service followed by Military Rites and Burial will be announced for a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Legion, Wounded Warriors, or the National Hospice Foundation.
The family would like to thank the care givers of Virginia's Garden at the Village of Allandale and Gentiva Hospice of Kingsport for being a comforting presence for Rudy and the family during this difficult time.
Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the Compton family.
