Opal Jean Leonard

Opal Jean Leonard, age 86, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Born in Jonesborough, Tennessee, in 1938, Opal led a fulfilling life marked by dedication to her family, career, and community. She retired from Meade Papers in 1993, where she served as Payroll Supervisor. During her years at Meade, she was actively involved with Junior Achievement, served on the board of the Meade Credit Union, and enjoyed being part of the Paper Dolls, Meade's softball team. Her time at Meade was enriched by many friendships, and she treasured the camaraderie with her colleagues.

Opal was also a dedicated member of the Gray Ruritan, where she served as treasurer and participated in community initiatives. Her faith was important to her, and she attended First Church of the Brethren. Known for her warm and welcoming personality, Opal enjoyed social gatherings and family outings in her later years, creating cherished memories with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Marie Palmer; her son, Kelley Leonard; grandson, Travis Leonard; and sister, Loeda Utsman.

Opal's memory lives on through her son, Dwayne Leonard; grandson, Donovan Leonard and family Heather and Oliver; daughter-in-law, Becky Leonard; sister, Eva Daniels; and several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Opal's life during a visitation at Trinity Memorial Centers on Thursday, November 14th, from noon until 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens with Pastor Bo Deaton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in her memory to Gray Community Chest.
