Norma Jean (Baird) Shackelford, 77, passed away Wednesday, November 22nd, 2022 in her home following a more than year-long battle with cancer. The Pennington Gap, VA native was the daughter of the late Nona Mae Patrick Baird and Barton Dock Baird. She is preceded in death by all her siblings; three brothers Donald Leon Baird, Norman Paul Baird, and James Earl Baird; and two sisters, Beverly Joyce Kline, and Patricia G Ann Garrett.
Norma Jean is survived by her husband of 57 years, Damon Shackelford. Norma is also survived by her two sons, Damon Bryan (Claire) and Jon Derek. Norma leaves behind 3 step-grandsons Michael Conner, Noah Norris, and Nathaniel Andrew. She is also survived by her granddaughter Emma Caroline. Norma also boasts 8-great grandsons and many friends and extended family who loved her very much. Norma was a member of Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church of Kingsport, TN.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 1st, at 10:00 am at the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Old Pavillion, 215 Heroes Drive, Mountain Home, TN 37684). The procession will begin promptly at 10:00 am. Please plan on arriving by 9:45 am. In lieu of flows, an expression of sympathy may be made to Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church at 108 Bridwell Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37664, in Memoriam of Norma J. Shackelford.
