Richard Allen Shelton, 68, died peacefully on Monday (April 13, 2015) with his family by his side. Born December 3, 1946 in Elizabethton, TN to the late Cleo and Rita Shelton. Richard graduated from Hampton High School and worked several years before retiring from Alemite Corporation in Johnson City. After retirement, Richard found enjoyment in substitute teaching at Sullivan Central High School, where he was loved by students and staff alike. Richard, "Paw" enjoyed NASCAR racing with his best-friend, his grandson. He enjoyed Lady Vols Basketball and spending time studying his Bible. He was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church. Richard was a caring and compassionate man, always giving to others. His selfless act in his donation of his organs and tissues will save lives and others will live on because of his very personal gift. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, his hero, George Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ellen Shelton of Bloomingdale; one daughter, Dustina Buckles & husband Jeff; grandson, Jakob Buckles; brother, Bud Shelton & wife Darlene of Chesapeake, VA; special brother-in-law, Bill Messer & wife Barbara of Atlanta, GA; very special friends, Mark Buchanan, Polly Reddick, Nicky Jessen, John Morelock, Bill Tilson, and Dennis Stout & wife Nancy. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday (April 19, 2015) from 2 to 4 p.m. at Vermont United Methodist Church (1817 Bloomingdale Road) with Pastors Jared Wood and Ray W. Amos, Sr. officiating. Per Mr. Sheltons wishes, the family requests casual attire. The family will receive friends anytime at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marcums Pharmacy for their loved prayers and support. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to St. Judes Children Research Hospital (501 St. Judes Place Memphis, TN 38105) and to consider making the decision to become an organ and tissue donor to help others.
