Michael Payne

June 28, 1969 — May 1, 2022

Michael “JoJo” Joel Lance Payne, 52, of Blountville, TN, passed away at home unexpectedly on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Michael joined the Marine Corp in 1988 and served the United States of America proudly in the Gulf War. He was employed at BAE Systems before going to Morristown Driver Services as a truck driver. He was also active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on the board as the Junior Vice Commander for the VFW Post 4933. Michael had a great love for family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the time they spent going to the park and Just Jump. Michael also had a passion for sports, especially football. He enjoyed coaching and acting as the referee for football games. Michael is preceded by both parents, Norman and Doris Payne Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Cierra Payne and Elizabeth (Derek) Vance; grandchildren; Briella, Renley, Gracie, and Dominic; brothers, Norman “Butch” (Tammy) Payne and Jeff (Linda) Payne; sisters, Donna (Anthony) Shepherd; nephews, Jason, Josh, Jeremy, Jonathan, and Torrey; special close friend and mother of his daughters, Carrie Hardin; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; numerous friends, way too many to name A Celebration of Life will be held at Bloomingdale Baptist Church located at 3220 Bloomingdale Rd, Kingsport, TN 37660 on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 6 pm, with a service starting at 7:30 pm. A graveside services will be on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Mountain Home VA Cemetery at 9am. We will meet at Trinity Memorial Funeral Home at 7:30am and go in procession from Trinity Memorial Funeral Home to the cemetery with an escort from Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. Please send all memorials and flowers to Trinity Memorial Funeral Home to be taken to the Church. You may make a monetary contribution to the VFW Post 4933 of Kingsport in memory of Michael, or you may make monetary donations to the family to help offset the funeral expenses. Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the Payne family.
