Mary Vanmetre

Mary VanMetre, 86, of Santa Maria, CA, passed peacefully away on Monday, October 2nd, 2023.

Mary was born in Colt, Arkansas, and moved to California when she was just one year old. Mary spent the rest of her life in California, where she met and married Lou Hornbeck. The couple had four children, Ken, Marilou, Laura, and Judy. Mary later married Karl VanMetre, in 1975, and the couple lived happily until his passing in 2018. Mary and Karl loved traveling in their motor home during their retirement; they also enjoyed competing in country western dancing. Mary loved both reading and traveling. Mary attended Element Christian Church of Santa Maria.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Karl VanMetre; brother, Joe Vinson; step-sons, Ken VanMetre, Joe VanMetre.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her children, Ken Hornbeck, Marilou Johns, Laura Harris, Judy Jones; step-children, Frank VanMetre, Joan Careyette, Karla Irby, Sandy Brown, Christine Monroe; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; sister, Ivy Geiger; two nephews and a niece.
