Mary Pierce Hogue, age 62, passed away peacefully on March 10th after a four-year battle with cancer.
Mary was born in Staten Island, NYC, to Larry and Mary Pierce. Her family moved to Kingsport in 1976, where Mary graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, class of 1980. She graduated from Tennessee Tech University, class of 1984, and was very active in OPA Service Sorority and Student Government.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Schuttler Pierce, and brother, Rick Pierce.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Mike Hogue; children Katie Fuller (Ryan), Charleston, SC; Timothy, Knoxville; and William, NYC; brothers, Herby Pierce (Michelle), Roanoke, VA, and George Pierce, Kingsport.
Mary will be remembered for many things including her love for the Lord and fierce devotion to her family. She was known by her friends and family for her love of photography with her camera always ready to capture the moment (always saying her pictures are her memories), for her love of wildlife (especially birds), and for her love of the outdoors, including running, hiking and camping. She served several years as a bookkeeper in the Sullivan County school system and with Watauga Orthopedics. Over the last seven years, she enjoyed volunteering as a tax preparer with VITA.
We would like to recognize the tremendous care Mary received from the Duke Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, Ballad Health Cancer Care, and Amedisys Hospice.
Services will be held this Friday, March 14th, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, with Visitation beginning at 12:00 PM and a Funeral Service at 1:30 PM. The family will hold a private burial service on Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association https://www.abta.org/ways-to-donate/.
