Mary Clydie “Peggy” Adkins

October 08, 1947 - May 17, 2019

Mary Clydie “Peggy” Adkins, 71, of Chuckey, TN, went to meet the Lord on Friday, May 17th, 2019 with her family by her side.

Peggy was born in Kingsport in 1947. She lived near her soon to be husband when they were kids. They met while they were playing neighborhood softball together… or that’s the story we are told. They dated for a few years and soon the flew the state to Gate City VA to be wed.

She and Wally had four kids and helped raise a fifth, Kaitlin, who they considered their daughter. Peggy worked a little for the Glass Plant but for the most of her life she kept the home which was a full time job as you can imagine. She cooked well, taught right from wrong, but still taught how to have a good time and enjoy life. She loved to spend time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

In her spare time she went yard sale’n where she enjoyed finding good deals and collecting angels. Her personality was very outgoing, she made a lot of friends, and she would help anyone who needed something. Peggy was a caring mother, wife, and above all a caring person. She leaves behind a big whole in everyone’s heart to fill (and stomachs).

She is preceded in death by her mother, Rose Lee; brother, Kenneth Persinger; uncles who were like brothers, Skip Brickey and Bud Brickey.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 55 years, James “Wally” Adkins; sons, James Adkins and wife Karen, Joseph Adkins and wife Cathy, Pettie Adkins; daughters, Rose Mary Adkins and Elizabeth Hyatt, seven grandkids; sixteen great grandkids; and one great great grandkid on the way; brothers, Cecil Ferguson and wife Faye, Steve Ferguson, and wife Joyce, Freddy Brickey and wife Jennifer; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday May 23rd at Trinity Memorial from 1pm to 3pm. Funeral will follow at 3pm with Pastor Roy Brickey officiating. Graveside service will follow at Providence Cemetery where she will be at peace surrounded by her family that has gone before her. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the family.
