Mark Allen Downing, 66, of Morristown, TN, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022. Mark was born in Modesto, California the middle child to Jack Downing and Shirley Rempfer on October 14, 1955. He graduated from Thomas Downey High School with his brother, Raymond, in 1972, and entered the USAF where he served as an Airman 1st Class from April of 1975 until February of 1977. After his honorable discharge, he worked as an electrician most of his life and loved tinkering with computers for hours. Mark was a proud Veteran; he enjoyed bowling in two leagues with his fellow Veterans in Modesto. In early 2018, Mark relocated to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee where he bought his first home. He loved working on his house - new carpet and flooring and several new trees; he also enjoyed fishing, camping, and exploring his new territory. Mark faced many trials and challenges in his life, but he trusted God and endured until he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 28, 2022, when he was released from this mortal body that held him captive in pain for the last few years. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Blalock; father, Jack Downing; and brother Raymond Downing. Mark is survived by his sisters Sheryl Mello (Victor), Kelly Keye (Tony) of Modesto, several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He also enjoyed spirited conversations with numerous FaceBook friends that considered him a dear friend and brother in Christ. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Holston Manor for their wonderful care and support. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 02, at 11:30 am at Trinity Memorial Centers. Pastor Glenn Starnes and Chaplain Cindy Ketron will be officiating the service and the graveside following immediately at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tennessee.
