Lundy Ratliff

July 29, 1929 - December 13, 2020
Lundy Ratliff Jr.; age 91, was born in Lookout, Kentucky 29 July 1929; to L. D. Ratliff and
Mellia Bartley Ratliff. Lundy passed peacefully in his sleep 13 December 2020, at the
Community Living Center, James Quillen Veterans Medical Center, Johnson City,
Tennessee. Lundy was a Korean War Veteran serving as a Forward Artillery Observer, 3rd Army, 196th
Artillery Battalion from 1951_1953, obtaining the rank of Corporal before
being Honorably discharged and returning to Pike County, Kentucky. Lundy and his
brother Paul Carol Ratliff ran the Ratliff Garage on South Mayo Trail known for its
slogan; “We can mend anything but a broken heart and a hole in the sky”. After closing
the garage, Lundy worked in the Coal Industry as an auger operator and heavy equipment
repairman until he moved into the Veterans Domicile in Johnson City, Tennessee. At the
time of his death, Lundy was the oldest living combat veteran at the James H. Quillen
VAMC.
Lundy was married to the late Lorraine Phillips Ratliff and was the father of three
children; two preceding his death, the late Marsha Ratliff Rosado of Pikeville, Ky. and
Jerry Dale Ratliff (his wife Lynn Ratliff) of Akron, Ohio. Surviving his death are his son
Perry Gail Ratliff and his wife Janet Ratliff of Savannah, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren, and
6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister in law; Nancy Carol Ratliff, 3
nieces and 1 nephew.
Services for Mr. Ratliff will be 20 January 2021; at 3:00PM, in the Mountain Home VA
Cemetery in Johnson City, Tennessee. Mr. Ratliff will be given full military honors.
