Linda Key Morphis

October 12, 1942 — June 30, 2024

Linda Lou "Key" Morphis went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on October 12, 1942, in DeKalb, Mississippi, Linda entered this world a minute before her twin sister, Brenda "Key" Hutton, forever changing the lives of those around her.

Linda graduated from DeKalb High School in 1968 and then attended Scooba Tech Junior College. It was there that she began shaping a life filled with love and dedication. Linda eventually met Melvin Morphis, who proposed to her in a local diner while Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" played in the background. Captivated by Melvin's charm, Linda married him and embarked on a journey of love and family.

She worked full-time for Bell South in Meridian, MS, all while raising five children. Over thirty-plus years as a proud member of the Communication Workers of America, Linda formed deep and lasting relationships with her colleagues, who supported each other and helped raise the five children she lovingly referred to as "heathens."

Linda had many passions and hobbies including volunteering with her home church, beeswax, painting, sewing, and leather decorating, but nothing rivaled her love for pimento cheese. Her dedication to making pimento cheese was akin to Bubba's love for shrimp in "Forrest Gump." Despite the demands of raising five children and working full-time, Linda always found time to perfect her pimento cheese recipe.

She was known for her selflessness, often doing without so her children could have the best clothes, music lessons, and opportunities in art and sports. Linda never missed a recital or a game and always welcomed guests to her table, embodying the spirit of hospitality.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Morphis; her father, Marcellus Key; her mother, Emma Key; her twin sister, Brenda "Key" Hutton; her sister, Margaret "Key" Hunt; and her sons, Troy Morphis and Emmett Morphis.

She is survived by her sons, Paul Morphis (Hayley) and their daughter Abby; Joseph Morphis (Anne) and their son Jack; her daughter, Melinda Spiller (Thomas), and their 7 children Lisa, Emma, Noah, Chadwick, Jackson, Avery, and Oliver. Her legacy continues with her grandsons Joshua Morphis, Graham Morphis, and Liam Morphis; her granddaughters Chelsea, Hannah, and Harlee; and four great-grandchildren; her sister, Francis Jane "Joe" Price and Jimmy Key both of Dekalb, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda will be deeply missed, but her loving spirit and the joy she brought to those around her will never be forgotten.
