He was born in Wilkes Barre, PA, September 5, 1928. He was a graduate of Kings College in Wilkes Barre, PA. He was treasurer of the Whiteman Paper Company and then in 1979 he moved to Reading, PA where he was in human resources at CarTECH Corporation. He was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Navy. He was a volunteer of the Kitchen of Hope and St. Dominic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Helfrick and Stella Yapsuga. Surviving are wife Jean Kurtyka Helfrick of the home, stepchildren, Leo Hanley and James Hanley and wife Kim Hanley both of Gap, PA, and Lenore Hanley Kilgore and husband Marty Kilgore of Kingsport; four step-grandchild, Ryan Hanley and wife Jessica of Reading, PA, Justin Hanley and wife Shawna of Philadelphia, PA, Allona Kilgore Taylor and husband Whitney Taylor of Kingsport, Jessica Kilgore Summers and husband James Summers of Gate City, VA; step-great-grandchildren, Marcus Taylor and London Taylor, Lexlie Summers and Elliott Summers; and several nieces nephews and cousins. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for August 2nd, 2014 at 2PM at St. Dominics Catholic Church in Kingsport, TN. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice and the Veterans Administration and request memorial contributions be sent to St. Dominics Catholic Church or the Kitchen of Hope in memory of Mr. Joseph Helfrick.
