Joseph Aidan Davis

January 21, 2004 — March 14, 2024

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Aidan Davis, age 20, who shed the weight of the darkness he felt in this world to find eternal light among the stars on Thursday, March 14th, 2024. Aidan leaves behind a legacy of catching friends and family off-guard with his goofy sense of humor and spontaneous deep thoughts. Aidan, our king of all wild things, delighted in making those around him laugh until their sides hurt.

Aidan was born on January 21, 2004 to Helen Kathryn Hickam in Kingsport, Tennessee. An impressive 10-pound baby at birth, we should have known his love for food would only continue to grow through adulthood. Aidan loved a good steak almost as much as he loved football.

Aidan grew up in Virginia and Tennessee, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 2022. While in high school, Aidan competed with the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where he won first place at the state competition twice in political science. An avid reader and life-long learner, he was a student at Northeast State Community College studying history with dreams of being a professor at the time of his passing.

Aidan was incredibly hardworking and had a deep passion for sports. No one loved football or knew more about it than Aidan. He played football for almost a decade and was awarded best linebacker and best defensive skill while in middle school. He was an amazing team player who was passionate about his sport. He would watch football every weekend repping his Tennessee orange or Carolina blue. He enjoyed wrestling in middle school and won many matches with his strength and determination. Aidan was incredibly intelligent, excelling through math and memorizing countless historical facts. He loved history with his whole heart and would spend hours and hours reading every day to expand his knowledge of subjects of interest.

Aidan loved to travel to the family's beach home in Edisto Island, South Carolina. There he could combine his love of reading with relaxing in the water. He enjoyed walks on the beach looking for seashells and going fishing.

Aidan was preceded in death by his great-grandparents and by his grandmother, Karen Depew. He will be loved and forever remembered by his mother Katy Hickam of Kingsport, brother Avery Hickam of Richmond, Virginia, sisters Grace Davis of Richmond, Virginia and Rebekah Davis of Bristol, Virginia, beloved dog Kiya, and father Craig Davis of Limestone. He is also survived by his grandparents, Nancy Dixon Hickam of Galax, Virginia and Jim and Cindy Hickam of Charlotte, North Carolina, aunts and uncles, Jessica and Peter Roffe of Fairfield, Connecticut and Liz and Greg Milans of Arlington, Virginia, and multiple cousins who loved him so much.

A celebration of life will be held in honor of Joseph Aidan Davis on Sunday, March 24 at Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home, 1221 Stewball Circle, Kingsport, Tennessee. All who knew him are welcome to attend and pay their respects. Family and friends will be received from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with the service starting at 2:00 pm. Friends and family are asked to share a funny story or memory of Aidan. Family has requested guests wear Aidan's favorite UT Vols orange and if they would like can bring a copy of "Where the Wild Things Are" to be donated to Fairmont Elementary School where Aidan attended.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Groovy Grover's "Kids Eat Free Summer " or Fairmont Elementary School Library Book Fund in memory of Aidan (1405 Lester Harris Rd, Johnson City, TN 37604).

Aidan is now without pain or suffering. May he rest in peace. As Aidan would say, we will love him forever to the oort cloud and back.
