John Luther Hammitt

John Luther (J.L.) Hammitt, 68, of Gray, TN, passed away on November, 13, 2019 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Elizabethton and has been a resident of the area his entire life. He retired from American Water Heater in Johnson City, Tn. He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed fishing, basketball with his grandson, and he loved his fur babies. J.L. is preceded in death by his parents; Luther and Betty Shipley Hammitt. Daughters; Mary Evelyn Hammitt, Juanita Ann Hammitt. Survivors include his wife of 40 years; Mary Juanita Hammitt. Sisters; Virginia Diane Vance and husband; Fred, of Bluff City, TN. Eva Ann Jones and husband; Richard, of Piney Flats, TN. Granddaughter; Madison DeAnna Humphrey, of Jonesborough, TN. Grandson; Cameron Zane Humphrey, of Jonesborough, TN. Several neices and nephews and aunts and uncles. Graveside services will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery at 2pm on Tuesday, November 26th with full military honors provided by American Legions Hammond Post 3 / Gate City 265.
