Joel Andrew Mcmurray

Joel Andrew McMurray, aged 57, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on February 24th, 2024. He was born in Bristol on July 21, 1966 and brought joy to those around him with his unique personality and diverse interests. Joel was a member of Bethel View Baptist Church.

He attended Tennessee High School and Central High School. After school he dedicated himself to his work as a carpenter. Joel was a talented and skilled carpenter having built several homes and provided remodeling in the surrounding area over the years. He worked for Sullivan County Maintenance.
Outside of work, Joel found happiness in attending concerts and comedy shows. He was also known for his remarkable boxing skills and his love for watching "wrastlin" matches.

Joel took immense pride in his daughters, Erin McMurray and Peyton Count. He enjoyed coaching them in their various sports, basketball, and volleyball. He also loved watching and helping his nephews and niece play sports.

Despite facing challenges, including surviving a shark "attack" twice, Joel approached life with resilience and a sense of humor. He had a vast knowledge of history, was an avid reader, and his love for trivia made him a formidable opponent in games like Jeopardy where he swore if he ever was on the show he would answer the last question with "Who is Pete Rose?"

In his leisure time, Joel enjoyed watching movies and was known to be a bit of a nerd. But his favorite pastime was firing up the mini charcoal grill, while watching his favorite ball games, as he was a devoted fan of UT football and basketball.
Joel is preceded in death by his mother, St Judy.

He is survived by his daughters, Erin McMurray and Peyton Count; four grandchildren; brother, Jason McMurray; father, Joel Alvin McMurray; an abundance of nephews and a niece; a loving cousin, Angela Venables and her husband Tyler; along with beloved cat, Jeffrey.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life.
