Joanne Ethel Turner

April 08, 1947 - December 07, 2017

“Your wings were ready but our hearts were not”
It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved feisty little Mom & Nanny, Joanne Turner 70, of Bristol VA, went to her heavenly home on December 7, 2017 at Bristol Regional Hospital with her daughter (her best friend) by her side holding her hand. She will be remembered for the little sassy women she was and for her knack of telling it like it was. She will mostly be remembered for her fight and strong will to live that she exhibited the last six months of her life.

She loved planting flowers and would always say “don’t wait until I am dead to send me flowers”. She also loved shoes and pocketbooks and unfortunately she passed that down to her daughter and granddaughters. She also, loved watching her grandsons play baseball. She was their biggest fan and to hear her tell it they were the best one on the team.

Little Ethel was born on 4/8/1947 in New Jersey to Ann Pijas Babb and Joseph Babb. She is survived by her husband aka old fart of almost 54 years. Apparently back then they didn’t have TV or other activities so she is survived by 4 sons: Steve Turner and wife Mary Ann Turner of Bristol, VA; Tony Turner of Bristol, TN; Chris Turner and wife Kay Turner of Kingsport, TN; John Turner and wife Michelle Turner of Bristol, TN and her daughter and BFF Christina “Tena” Marshall and her husband Chris Marshall of Bristol, VA. Adopted daughters: MaryAnn Turner, Krista Turner and Katrina Greer; special friends: Kathyrn Maybury and Marie Maybury and her partner in crime Chandra Charles. She loved her kids but the love of her life was her grandchildren: Christian, Connor, Cylie (pudding) and Madison Marshall; Morgan Turner (baby girl), Joanna (her name sake), Bruce, PJ, Stephanie, Madelyn, Michaella, Devin, and Ethan Turner and Madi Ware. Her great grandchildren: Emma Turner (her coco bean), Parker and Jaxson Elam and Nixon Sheffield.

Our feisty little mom would not want a sappy funeral service so a “Celebration of Life” luncheon will be held on Saturday December 23, 2017 @ 11:00-2:00 at “The Lodge” Shelter at Steele’s Creek Bristol, TN (there is a $2 entry fee to the park). Come as you are or feel free to bring your favorite dish to share as we celebrate her life. https://www.facebook.com/events/159182938033687/?ti=icl

Our precious mom was loved by many but there were no greater love than that of her daughter’s.
“Fly high little angel and enjoy your flower garden in Heaven”
