Jerry Allan Matthews

Jerry "Orf" Allan Matthews, 58, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday, August 23, 2019. Born to Helen and Frank Matthews of Hawkins County, TN in 1961, Jerry "Orf" Matthews began his journey through life along with what was originally a total of 14 brothers and sisters. It was here that he started growing into the hard working, caring and loving husband, father and friend. He started a family of his own at the age of 21 with his loving wife, Janet, and followed by three daughters, Brandy, Ginger, and Kayla. In his later years, his family and friends were his life, and they will dearly miss him. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Matthews; brother, Floyd Matthews; nieces, Rebecca Light and Lindsey Richards; nephew, Kevin Matthews; and special in laws, Madison and Bobbie Manis. He is survived by his wife, Janet Matthews; daughters, Brandy and husband, Marvin, Ginger and husband, Casey, and Kayla and husband, Jeff; godsons, Travis and Cody Matthews; grandchildren Jacob, Nathaniel, Noah, Madison, Rayland and Luke; god-grandson, Trelyn; brothers and sisters, Leroy and Maxine Matthews, Connie and Jon Baskette, Debbie and Charles Long, Judy and Jack Light, Marvin and Thelma Matthews, Clifford and Cheri Matthews, Terry Richards, Margie Matthews, Linda Weens, Thomas and Carol Matthews, Ernie Matthews, and Marty and Missy Matthews; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Rick and Tammy Matthews; and too many more to mention, but he loved them all. A visitation will be held at Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28, at 2 pm-3 pm with the service to follow afterward. Graveside will be at 4:30 at the family cemetery in Rogersville, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to help with funeral expenses.
