It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jeremy Ray Bates, a loving father, devoted sports enthusiast, and a cherished friend to many. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and Dobyns-Bennett High School. Jeremy passed away at home on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

Born on August 22, 1983, Jeremy was known for his boundless love for sports, his kind heart, and his unwavering love for his family. Above all, he was a proud father who adored his children. His love for them was endless.

An avid sports lover, Jeremy spent much of his life enjoying and engaging in various athletic activities. Through the years, he spent most of his time cheering on his favorite teams, playing sports with friends and family, or coaching youth sports. He spent many years teaching his children the fundamentals of softball, basketball, and golf. His passion for sports was endless, and his enthusiasm and knowledge of sports inspired all who knew him.

Jeremy was also a compassionate and generous friend, always there to lend a hand or offer support. His sense of humor and infectious laughter will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jeremy is preceded in death by his wife, Blair Bates, his brother, John Bates, and his grandparents. Jeremy is survived by his children, Aleigha Bates, Alivia Bates, Maddox Bates, and Kamden Bates, his parents, Kathy (Martin) Schick and Randy (Patricia) Bates, his brother, Joshua Bates, mothers of his children and close friends, Kelly Bates and Kelly Busbee, and many aunts, uncles, and friends who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends. The service will be held on February 13, 2025, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Broad Street, Kingsport, TN 37660. Receiving of family and friends at 4:00 PM. The service will follow at 5:00 PM.

Jeremy will be greatly missed, and his spirit, love, and laughter will live on in all of us.
