James Reece Bush

James Reece Bush "Tooter" 86, of Bristol, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2024 surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 30, 1937, in Harlan County, KY. James was a hard worker and skilled craftsman. James went in to the Army at the young age of 17 years old to try to start a life for himself. He always had a drive that kept him looking ahead to the future. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1958 and earned the ranking of Sargent. He was very proud of his military accomplishments.

James was a man of many talents and experiences. He was a tobacco farmer, bus driver in Washington, DC, owner of his own business in Castlewood, VA, worked at Bristol Compressors, where he met the love of his life. Spent 20 years at Strongwell where he retired from at the age of 82. He was a dedicated worker and enjoyed what he did.

In his free time, James enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, gardening, mowing and spending time outdoors. He cherished the sunshine and loved the Outer Banks. He was avid reader and enjoyed history. He was an intelligent man and a man of his faith. He loved the Lord with all of his heart.

Family was everything to him.

James is survived by his loving wife, Linda Bush; daughter, Sarah Bush "Sarahbeth" ,stepson, Jimmy Doss, granddaughters, Abbey and Mackenzie Doss. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert E Bush; mother, Thelma Bellamy; brothers, Gerald Junior, Denver Lee, and Hansford Ray Bush; sisters, Mildred Juanita, Lestrice Ann Thomas, and Jacklyn Patsy Glovier.

A special recognition for his wife Linda and his daughter Sarahbeth who stayed with him by his side to the very end.

The family expresses the gratitude to Caris Hospice for their services and compassion during such a difficult time.

A private family graveside service will be held at Mountain Home Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard DAV 39.

Flowers may be sent to Trinity Memorial Centers in Kingsport, TN.
