James Kenneth Standley

May 15, 1978 — March 24, 2019

James Kenneth “Kenny” Standley passed away suddenly on Sunday March 24, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, TN. Kenny was born on May 15, 1978 in Galveston, TX. Later, after living the majority of his childhood in California, his family finally settled in the mountains of Tennessee. Kenny was a very happy person who was always smiling and willing to help others. He was a terrific son, brother, he was brutally honest and a sci-fi fanatic, loving Ancient Aliens, Stargate and Big Bang Theory. Kenny loved his nieces and nephews and always made time available to visit with them. He was quick to forgive and he was a generous person. Kennys two dogs, Ginger and Sassy, were greatly loved by him. He loved dressing up with his nieces while having a makeover and sparring with his nephews with the latest MMA moves. Kenny had also developed a mastery of animal sound mimicry. A big kid at heart himself, he loved his children very much. Over the years, Kenny had amassed a large collection of movies and TV shows, a collection of knives and military memorabilia. He was an amateur drone pilot, loved watching documentaries on anything, was always looking for new knowledge and he had a knack for training animals of any breed, temperament or size. Kenny is preceded in death by his grandmother, “Mamaw Texas”, Mayme Ward. Kenny is survived by his mother and step father, Carolyn Barrett and Jim Stroupe; children, Dakota, Kaylee and Mercedes; sisters, Christina and Jolene; nieces, Alicia, Erica, Alexis and Alaena; nephews, Cody, C.J. and Taylor; granddaughter, Ava Elaine; great nieces, Bell, Ava and Hadlee; and great nephews, Chance, Gage and Bentley. When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives. Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to be serving the Standley family.
