James Monroe “Doc” Depew, 77, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16th, 2019.
Doc was born in Kingsport in 1942 where he spent his youth. He was a graduate of Church Hill High School. After high school he felt called to serve his country and joined the Army. Doc served in Vietnam as a Radio Operator where he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal Rifle, and Good Conduct Medal.
While Doc was stationed in Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Huntsville, AL he met the love of his life, Carolyn. They soon were married and raised a wonderful family. He was a very caring father, good hardworking provider, and good Christian man.
Doc enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family. He also enjoyed traveling with Carolyn all over the country and spending every friday night on date night for 51 years. As the years went by his love for his children and grandkids would become the light of his life. He loved to take them on trips especially to Middle Tennessee to see family. Whatever his grandkids were into he was too. He attended all their school functions and sports.
If you knew Doc, you knew he was a very active and friendly person. He loved to sit and talk about sports radio with people. His favorite team was UT and he made sure you knew it if you asked. He was active in church and his neighborhood. He enjoyed participating and helping with youth activities at St. Luke UMC. He was a very caring and kind soul who was well loved and lived life to the fullest.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Lola Depew; sisters, Margaret Carr, Mary Sue Crigger, and Cora Bell.
Left to cherish his dear memories are his wife and soulmate, Carolyn Depew; daughters, Amelia Osborne and husband Jim, Pepper Depew, and Katie Allen; grandkids, Zachary Allen, Hunter Osborne, Jarred Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell, Lilli Allen, Grayson Osborne, and Kinzie Depew; brothers, Robert Depew and Jay Depew; son-in-law, Ray Allen; several nieces and nephews; and his furry best friend, Lick-a-Lot.
Visitation will be held on Monday May 20th from 10am to 11am at St. Luke UMC in Kingsport. Service will follow with Pastor Robert Depew and Pastor Tim Hodges officiating. We will go in procession following the service to Mountain Home VA Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Hammonds Post 3 / Gate City 265.
Pallbearers are Zachary Allen, Jarred Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell, Lilli Allen, Ray Allen and Jim Osborne.
