Helen Whitaker Johnson

June 5, 1939 — June 28, 2018

Jonesborough- Helen Whitaker Johnson of Jonesborough, born June 5, 1939, passed away on June 27, 2018. She was born in Washington County, TN to the late Guy E. Whitaker and Viola L. Ball. After attending Sullivan High School, Helen married Denver Roy Johnson. Together they raised three sons: Tony, Greg and Scott. Helen devoted her life to her family. She shared many wonderful past times with her grandchildren Patrick, Candace, and Lyndsey, including early Saturday morning yard sales, collecting beanie babies and porcelain dolls, and entering crafts in the Washington County Fair. She enjoyed a great career with Singer Sewing Company where she won many awards for her sales accolades. Her lifelong passion was sewing. Helen spent many years after her time with Singer crafting hand-made mohair bears, which she would display at craft shows throughout Tennessee and Virginia, which are still highly sought after by collectors today. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Allen Johnson, her sister, Mary Alice Whitaker Greer, and her brother, Roy Whitaker. Surviving are brother George Edward Whitaker of Gate City; Tony and Debbie Johnson of Kingsport; Scott and Michele Johnson of Mount Juliet; Sean Patrick Johnson of Sullivan Gardens; Candace, Jonathan and Stella Jean Mash of Hermitage; and Lyndsey Johnson and Brad Nuckols of Manakin-Sabot, Virginia; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:30am to 1:00pm on Monday, July 2 at Trinity Memorial Center, with a memorial service to follow, conducted by Rev. Richard K. Dice, proceeded by a procession to East Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Johnson, Sean Patrick Johnson, Jonathan Mash, Brad Nuckols, Scott Whitaker, and Kenny Ball. Trinity Memorial Centers in Kingsport is proudly serving the Johnson Family.
