Frank Anthony Lipoma, 79, of Kingsport, TN, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 20th, 2019.
Frank was born April 12th, 1939 in Norwalk, Connecticut to Frank and Julia Lipoma. He proudly served in the US Navy on USS SARATOGA CVA-60 1959-1961. While on leave in Jacksonville, Florida, he met the love of his life, Jessie (Culberson), who he has shared the past 59 years. Once married, he made TN his home for good.
He worked for the Athens, TN Daily News, Fire Department, and was a Sales Representative for Montgomery Wards before transferring to Kingsport, TN where he then found his calling as a Deputy and Detective for the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 2005. He also worked as a School Resource Officer for Sullivan North and South, Security Officer at Holston Valley Community Hospital, Northeast State community college and was a volunteer at the Bloomingdale Fire Department. They raised two daughters, Theresa Connors and Patricia (Patty) Gill, and one son, Frank Anthony (Tony) Lipoma Jr.
Frank’s two favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing where he developed a remarkable community of lifelong friends. He will be remembered for his easy going manner, humor, and could often be seen handing out Gold Dollar Coins at local restaurants and establishments. He was an avid firearms collector who seldom passed an opportunity to trade, buy, or sell.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother, Julia; sister, Marie; and great niece, Sarah.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie; three children and their families, Theresa and fiancee Alan, Patty and husband Mike, Tony and wife Donna; five grandkids, Alex, Matthew and Brendan (Patty), Katelyn and Alexis (Tony); twenty nieces and nephews; and many other members of his extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 2nd from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life in the Parish Life Center from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church (2517 N. John B. Dennis Highway, Kingsport, TN 37660).
