Dwight "Otis" Whaley, 61, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness. He enjoyed Amateur Radio and he earned several rewards with Kingsport Radio Club. Dwight was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church and he loved being with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ruby Whaley. Dwight is survived by his wife, Cora Whaley; daughter, Mitzi Franklin (Nashville, TN); sons, John Franklin and wife Nikki (Kingsport), Earl Oaks and wife Robin (Kingsport); grandchildren, Jacob Franklin, Jamal Alkurdi and Andrew Franklin; brother, Steve Whaley and wife Kim (Lenoir, NC); nephews, Nathaniel, Stephen and Chelsea; great nieces and nephews, Zoe, Stormie, Sofia, Sawyer, Paris and Alexander; and lifelong friend, Charlie Spears. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 15th, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Trinity Memorial. Service will follow at 6:30 PM with Reverend Dennis Spears and Pastor Chris Brown officiating. The family would like to say a special thank you to John and Nikki Franklin, Mary Lea Byer, Peggy Birch, Jan Aufdencamp , Bob and Partha Maness and Tip Cloud. Bob and Carolyn Stevens were instrumental in leading Otis to the Lord, members of Atworth Sunday School Class.
