Donald J Althaus, (Don) 76 completed his journey here on Earth, February 4, 2025, at home in Flag Pond, TN. Don was born in Urbana, Illinois on September 24, 1948. He grew up in Bondville, Illinois where he met his wife, Arnita Dunaway Althaus. They married on April 1,1967, she survives. Also surviving are Sons, Jeff Althaus (Carrie) of Flag Pond, TN; Randy Althaus (Darla) of Pesotum, IL. Grandsons, Jakob and Brody Althaus of Flag Pond, TN. Don was loved by all and will be missed.
Don attended Schools in Champaign, Illinois. He Graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1966. After high school, Don joined the Champaign Local 218C Sheet Metal Workers Union in April 1967, from which he retired in September 2008.
Don and his wife Arnita lived in Bondville ,Illinois from 1948 to 1983 when they moved to Monticello, IL. In 1993 they purchased land in Golconda, Illinois where they made home after retiring in 2008 until Don's diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gerig's Disease) in January 2023, moving to Flag Pond Tennessee in November 2023.
Don loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He especially liked deer camp with his sons, grandsons, and friends. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, creating metal works. His happy place was either in the woods or crafting in his shop. The last few years in Golconda he took up woodworking. Crafting home decor, furniture or whatever he could come up with. Don supported the Golconda Illinois Public Library. Each year he made something to be auctioned at the library's silent auction.
The family thanks the ALS clinic in Elizabethon, TN, and Amedisys Hospice Care, especially Becky Bennett Allen, for their support during this difficult time.
