David Mitchell Johnson, 71, a resident of Kingsport, TN, peacefully departed this world on Monday, February 26, 2024.
David was a man of remarkable intellect, consistently excelling as an Honors Student throughout his academic journey. His passion for the sciences was matched only by his gift for the written word, demonstrating an unparalleled versatility in his ability to express himself through writing.
A true jack-of-all-trades, David was a skilled handyman who possessed the uncanny ability to construct or repair virtually anything that crossed his path. With a wealth of experience in both retail management and construction, he dedicated many years of his life to these professions.
While his professional pursuits were varied, David's heart was always drawn to the service of others. He pursued some education in social work, embodying the spirit of compassion and empathy in his interactions with those in need.
Born on April Fool's Day, David had a playful sense of humor and a knack for lightening the mood with a well-timed joke. He was a natural protector, especially over his beloved sisters, whom he cared for devotedly throughout their lives. David's nurturing nature extended beyond his immediate family, as he embraced his role as a caregiver to his mother and treated his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children.
In addition to his many talents, David was also known for his culinary skills, delighting those around him with his delicious creations in the kitchen. He was a man of immense generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand and give selflessly to those in need.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marie Johnson; his sister, Connie Carter; as well as his paternal grandparents, Golden and Helen Johnson, and maternal grandparents, J.V. and Margaret Harkleroad.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be carried on by his brother, Steven, and wife Cathy; sisters, Carolyn Goddard and Linda Wright; nephews, Andy Johnson and Michael Wright; nieces, Amanda Williams, Jessica Wright, Kayla Parsons; as well as three great-nephews, five great-nieces, and dear friends Michael and Tim.
In accordance with David's wishes, there will be no formal services held. Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is privileged to assist the family during this time of remembrance and reflection.
