David Chapman Shipley

October 26, 1947 — February 10, 2024

David Chapman Shipley, a beloved resident of Johnson City, TN, joined the Lord in Heaven on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the age of 76.
David was born in 1947 in Johnson City, TN. He spent his high school years at Science Hill and Oak Ridge High Schools. After graduating in 1965 he courageously served in the Marine Corps.

All who met David remember him for his joyful spirit and active involvement in the community. David touched countless lives. He dedicated much of his time to coaching youth sports, including baseball, softball, football, basketball, and track. Youth sports were not the only place David shined. He volunteered with the Daniel Boone Marching Band for 8 years, assisted Lori's baton teacher in perfecting routines for World Finals, and was a Rules Commissioner for the World Twirling Association. A devout person of faith, David embarked on numerous mission trips with his wife by his side, building communities and spreading love and compassion across the world.

A devoted family man, David cherished his wife, Ann, of 57 years. He equally shared that love and care with his children and grandchildren. His support did not stop with family ties. Whether constructing a handicap ramp, fixing a lawn mower, or tackling small home repairs, he was always willing to lend a hand to friends, neighbors and strangers. To know him was to love him.

Eastman Chemical benefited from David throughout his 32-year career. He was very proud of his accomplishments, including promotion to Principal Technologist. As a principal technologist he traveled throughout the United States and Europe, setting up laboratories for Eastman.

In his spare time, David's love for fishing and Tennessee football was undeniable. He was a Vols fan through and through (Go Vols)!

David is preceded in death by grandparents, Preston and Mary Shipley, Paul and Elsie Chapman; parents, Bill and Zeta Shipley (Chapman); brother, Ken Shipley.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 57 years, Ann; son, Scott Shipley and wife Julie; daughter, Lori Wooten; grandchildren, Emma and Carter Shipley, Petie and Sophie Wooten; siblings, Nat Shipley and wife Sally, Mary Beal and husband Dale, Jon Shipley and wife Carolyn, Martha Lee and husband Tommy; several nieces and nephews; and many, many, special friends and extended family.
