Cathy Lynne Smith Piner, age 60, passed from this Earth in her sleep on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018 after a long fight with Lupus. She was born in Kingsport, TN on January 25th, 1958 and took her last breath in her home on the farm she and her husband owned in Greene County, TN.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shelby Jean Smith-Nutter; father, Charles Donald Smith.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Rodney Layne Piner; children and spouses, Whitney and and husband Jamie McKinnie, Ashley and husband Randy Lawson, Brandon and wife Melanie Piner; several grandchildren; favorite aunt “tootsie”; brother, David Smith; sister, Cindy Price; along with many extended family members and friends.
Cathy spent many years working with the special education department at Miller Perry Elementary School and Colonial Heights Middle School. She loved the students and faculty. She touched many hearts and young minds and thought of them often. Cathy loved God and her family and devoted her life to them. She taught her children and grandchildren well in the way of the Lord. She supported Rodney in returning to school, work, and ministry to the Lord. She was instrumental in reaching souls for God and taught her children to do the same. She supported her children’s dreams and goals and encouraged them to put their full passion into every endeavor. This is now a time of Joy and she would want all those who love her to remember that. May God Bless all those who love her and give them peace.
A Life Celebration and Fellowship Dinner will be held on Tuesday, August 7th from 5pm to 8pm at Trinity’s Downtown Life Celebration (Model City Event Center, 201 E Center Street, Kingsport). Covered dishes are welcomed. Please join the family to remember the remarkably loving Cathy Piner.
In lieu of cut flowers, Cathy enjoyed living arrangements, potted plants, fruits trees, and berries that will be planted in her memory garden at her home Umbrella Blessings Farm in Greene County, TN.
