Carolyn Faye Barrett

September 5, 1955 — April 8, 2025

Carolyn Faye Barrett, age 69, of Johnson City, TN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

A true hippy at heart, Carolyn lived life with a free spirit and a whole lot of love. She had a laid-back spirit and a deep love for the simple things-rock and roll, a cold Coca-Cola, and the people she held dear. Family meant everything to her, and she showed her love in a hundred little ways. Whether it was dancing the night away, taking country drives with her love Jim with nowhere in particular to be listening to music, or spoiling her great-grandbabies with surprise packages she often ordered online, Carolyn gave of herself fully and joyfully.

Carolyn spent many years working at a bank out in California, where folks quickly learned she was someone you could count on-always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. She had a calm, steady presence and a way of making people feel welcome, just by being herself. She loved hunting through thrift stores for hidden gems, a good thrift store find could make her day, and she had a soft spot for teapots and little treasures that told stories.

Carolyn was the most supportive person you could ever meet. She didn't judge-she just listened, loved, and lifted others up. If you were having a hard day, a talk with her made it better. She always cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, hollered for the Longhorns, and rooted for Rusty Wallace every time he hit the track. Life was meant to be celebrated in Carolyn's world-preferably with music playing loud and the chance to dance a little.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Mamie Ward; her beloved son, Kenneth Standley; and her brother, Donalee.

Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love through her daughters, Christina Zanes and Jolene Ward; grandchildren, Alicia, Taylor, Savana, Montana, Skyler, Dakota, Cody, Erica, Chance, and Cody; great-grandchildren, Bella, Avalee, Bentley, Hadlee, Nevaeh, Grayson, Kaiden, Gage, and Heavenly. She also leaves her life partner, Jim Stroupe, who shared so many cherished moments and music-filled rides with her.

Her memory will forever echo in the laughter of her grandkids, the scent of fresh flowers, the hum of a country road, and the rhythm of a good rock and roll tune. She was one of a kind-and she will be missed dearly.
