Betty Lou was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, and a graduate of the 1951 class of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She continued her education at Tennessee Wesleyan. She spent her early years as a Kindergarten teacher at Mayfair Methodist Church before becoming a Teacher's Assistant with Kingsport City Schools. Penland and husband Paul of Kingsport, TN, and grandchildren John W. Penland, of Johnson City, TN, and Michelle K. Penland, of Kingsport, TN. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Brookdale Assisted Living in Colonial Heights and Amedisys Hospice nursing staff for their loving care of Betty Lou. The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm, Tuesday October 22, 2019 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport, TN. The Celebration of Life service will follow with Rev. Dr. Randy Frye and Rev. Jack Weikel officiating.
