Benita Faye Barker

Benita Faye Barker, 61, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. She was born in Williamson, West Virginia, and raised in Buskirk, KY.
A graduate of Belfry High School, class of 1980, Benita furthered her education at South West Virginia Community College, earning her associate degree as a registered nurse in 1988. She later received her master's degree from the University of Phoenix in 2004. Her nursing career took her to various places before she eventually settled in this area.
Benita's life was defined by her servant's heart and her dedication to her career as a registered nurse. She worked for many years at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City and served as a nurse manager for Health Management Associates. Her love for her family, especially her granddaughters, was paramount. In her younger years, she enjoyed music, dancing, and walking. In the last two years, she devoted herself to helping her sister through medical issues.
Benita is predeceased by her parents, Ben and Faye Varney.
She is survived by her sons, Brian Harmon and wife Stephanie, Ben Harmon and wife Brytni, Jeff Barker and wife Katie; daughter, Rachel Barker; grandchildren, Ryland Harmon, Phoebe Harmon, and Evelyn Barker; brothers, Robert Varney and wife Karen, Gary Varney and wife Anetha, Lesley "Buddy" Varney and wife Rosie; sister, Carol Carter; and her former husband of 32 years, Jim Barker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 30th, at Crossroads Methodist Church from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A memorial service will follow, officiated by Pastor Randy Lantz.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crossroads Methodist Church.
