Astrid Demarrais

Astrid deMarrais, 86, of Kingsport, passed away quietly at her home at Emeritus assisted living in Kingsport. Astrid was a career educator, who taught nearly every level of students in a long and productive career. Her final career stop was at Carlow College in Pittsburgh, PA where she established a learning center to tutor college students in a variety of subjects. She leaves a legacy of many lives improved through her passion and devotion to education. She will also be remembered as a loving mother and friend who could always be counted on for a smile and a word of encouragement. Her twinkling smile, wit, wisdom, and intelligence will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members. She is survived by her three children, Ann deMarrais of Mt. Vernon, Washington; William deMarrais and wife Lesa of Elizabeth, PA; and Paul deMarrais and wife Pamela of Kingsport, TN; three grandchildren, Alma Herrera, Maria Julia Herrera and Lisa Herrera. Visitation will be held from 7 - 8 pm at Salem United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 pm with Pastor Will Shewey officiating at Salem United Methodist Church, 230 Boozy Creek Rd, Blountville, TN A private interment will be held on Monday. The family also wishes to thank the caring staff of Emeritus of Kingsport and Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care Astrid received in her final days of life.
