Andrew Brady Rye

September 10, 1930 — December 31, 2014

After a long and happy life, Andrew (Andy) Brady Rye, of Kingsport, went to be with his brother, two sisters, and the risen Lord God on Wednesday (December 31, 2014) . Born in Chapin S.C., Brady grew up in Columbia S.C. He graduated from Columbia High School in South Carolina. In 1957, Brady earned his BS degree in electrical engineering at Clemson University. He was a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Navy, and served on the U.S.S. McCaffery. He has been a resident of Kingsport for the past 35 years. Andy worked for TVA for 26 years, retiring as Area Superintendent of a 40 county area in northeast Tenn. He then became co-owner/founder of Southeastern Color Graphics Inc. in Johnson City. He retired from the printing business in 2000. A longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, he was the first Chairman of their Building Committee that constructed the original church on Sunset Dr. To give back to the community, he taught surveying classes at what is now Northeast State Community College. His sisters, Ann Berry, Ella Mae (Tilly) Wolfe, and Brother Curtis Rye, all of Columbia S.C., precede Andy in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucy Rye of the residence; daughter, Ann Godsey, of Kingsport; son, Andrew (Skip) II and wife Kellye Rye, of Cumming, Ga.; daughter, Lisa Rye Jones and husband Eddie, of Johnson City; grandchildren include, Brady and Chris Rye of Cumming Ga., Hannah and Leah Godsey of Johnson City, Eddie Joe, Jr. and wife Leslie Jones of Johnson City, and Stacy Jones of Gray; three great- grandchildren, Luke Jones, Carter Jones, and Alexis Jones. "Uncle Andy" has numerous nieces and nephews living in Maine, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Illinois, and Alaska. Family will receive friends Saturday (January 3, 2015) at Our Savior Lutheran Church (212 Sunset Dr. Johnson City, TN. 37604) at 12:30 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to Our Savior Lutheran Church (212 Sunset Dr. Johnson City Tenn. 37604 ).
