Alyce Anthony

October 28, 1941 — May 30, 2022

Alyce Kathleen Anthony, 80, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on May 30, 2022 after a brief illness. Alyce was born on October 28, 1941 to Samuel and Frances Chipner in Akron, Ohio. As a child, she contracted and recovered from polio. This childhood illness severely limited her physical activities over her lifetime. After graduating from Big Prairie High School in 1961, Alyce landed her first job as a Tracer of Plans for North Electric Company in Galion, Ohio where she met the love of her life, Jim. On May 1, 1965 Alyce and Jim wed and moved to Eau Gallie, Florida, going on to have 2 children, Kelly and Shawn. When Alyce had Kelly, she decided to dedicate her life to being a wonderful mother and homemaker. Three years later, Shawn came along, completing their family. Jim and Alyce moved their family several times over the next 50 years to follow Jim's career; living, working, and making friends in Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia before finally retiring to Kingsport Tennessee to be close to family. They built a good life together, enjoying travel and visits with family and friends over the years. Their marriage is a shining example of love to all who know them. During these years, she suffered several health issues that eventually affected her sight, mobility, and ability to drive. Jim lovingly supported her through these health trials as promised in those wedding vows so many years ago and she never gave up, always smiling and continuing to serve others' needs above her own. Alyce excelled at caring for and supporting her family through the many ups and downs of their lives. She loved God and taught her children to love, respect, and serve the people around us. She always strived to improve the lives of others, singing in the church choir, making cakes, crocheting blankets and other items, and in her later years crafting homemade birthday and holiday cards for all her loved ones. She was a faithful friend to all who knew her and wouldn't hesitate to lend a helping hand when needed. For many years, family and friends have anxiously awaited the mail to deliver homemade cards from Alyce. We will miss her and her lovingly handcrafted cards greatly at every special occasion. Alyce also loved to spend time with Jim and her three grandchildren, Kelsey, Caleb, and Luke. They would spend summer vacations and holidays together over the years as the children grew. She was exceedingly proud of their accomplishments, and they adored her in return. Alyce was predeceased by her mother and father, Samuel and Frances Chipner and three brothers, Samuel Chipner, Jr., Ted Chipner, and Sonny Chipner (infant). She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, James Anthony (Jim); her daughter, Kelly Pennington (Daniel); son, Shawn Anthony; grandchildren, Kelsey, Caleb, and Luke; brothers, Jack Chipner and David Chipner; two sisters, Margaret Pyers and Shirley Thompson; many other loving family, nieces, nephews, sisters in law and brothers in law from both the Chipner family and Anthony family. She is also survived by her faithful, furry friend, Orangie. Visitation and services will be held Monday, June 6, 2022 at Trinity Memorial starting at 11:30am. Following the services we will then go in procession to Washington County Memorial Gardens for entombment. Alyce loved the color red so to celebrate her life we will be wearing red items and invite you to do the same. Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the Anthony family.
