Sonja “Sonnie” Renell Hughes, 53, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
Sonnie was a native to Kingsport. Sonnie was a hippie at heart and a straight-forward, no sugar coating gal. She had a fantastic smile and the most beautiful eyes. Her personality was captivating. She was a unique individual, and she was the go-to person who kept her family in line and order. She made some great biscuits and gravy that no one will forget. She also loved listening to music, especially 2 for Tuesday Classic Rock. She had the privilege of getting to travel on many memorable road trips. One of her favorite trips was going to New Mexico to meet the Blessed Mary. Her spirit is with each of us, but we will greatly miss her presents.
Preceded by her mother, Wanda Hughes; paternal grandparents, William and Della Hughes; maternal grandparents, Jake and Edith Morelock; several aunts and uncles.
Survived by her son, Dalton Short; father, Jim (Brenda Dillman) Hughes Sr.; brother, Jim (Mary) Hughes Jr.; sister, Ginger Porter; niece, Emily (Cory) Lane; nephew, Jared Porter; two great-nephews, Trentyn and Cody; special cousin, Tammy Littleton; many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
