Elizabeth (Betty) Adeline Quillin Pobst was born June 13, 1927, in Coeburn, Va. She passed away on June 27, 2022. Betty was born at home, in time for supper, as her mom said, into a family with two older brothers (Buck and Jack) and a sister (Jean). She was doted on and loved by her siblings and parents. Her father, who was an entrepreneur, lawyer and mayor bought a restaurant and a theater. Although those who described her would call her "quiet", she made a number of life-long friends in high school. She, like her siblings, excelled in school. She got several awards and graduated 2nd in her high school class. While many young women never got the opportunity to attend college, Betty's father set up a college fund, put her name on the account, and made sure there was enough for her to attend school at Emory and Henry College in Virginia. Once again she excelled in all her studies in college. She earned a BA, graduated summa cum laude, and received several awards for her excellence in the classroom. It was also during college that she met a young man fresh out of the Army, named Hadley Pobst from Tazewell, Virginia. They fell in love and got married after college. Betty and Hadley were blessed with six children, four girls, and two boys George, Eileen, Laura, Ted, Eleanore, and Susan. In our home, there was never a doubt we were loved. Betty's love was ever-present and unconditional. Betty loved to read. She always had a stack of books checked out from the library. She was very good at crossword puzzles and we were always amazed that she could complete them with a pen instead of a pencil. Betty had a close relationship with God, and because of that, her family was blessed by her life. She served in the church nursery for years. If someone needed a meal, she was there helping and giving. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. And she loved them all. She enjoyed being with them and hearing about their lives. Betty was all we could have wanted in a mother and certainly more than we deserved! She was the mother God gave us, and we are who we are because she followed God and loved us. She spent the last few years of her life in the Preston Place II Memory Care Unit in Kingsport, TN. Our family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Preston Place. They loved our mother, loved on her, and took excellent care of her while she lived there. We would also like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their tender care during the last few months and especially the last few days of her life. Their tender care given to our mother, and comfort given to us allowed us to focus on our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Edgemont Presbyterian Church or Alzheimer"s Association. Graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN Friday, July 1st at 1:00 PM. Celebration of Life will be at Tri-Cities Baptist Church, in Gray at the outdoor pavilion at 4:30, July 1st. Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the Pobst family.
