Darrell Wayne Lawson

August 14, 1949 - February 04, 2018

Retired SFC Darrell Wayne Lawson, 68, of Morristown, TN, left behind his burdens after a long fought battle with cancer on February 4th, 2018. He won the victory in Christ and is now at rest in the presence of his Heavenly Father. Darrell was born in Kingsport, TN and graduated from Ketron High School before joining the Army.

Darrell spent his career in the military honorably serving the country for which he loved until he retired. He served tours in Vietnam, Bosnia, and Korea and was stationed in several states. He was a member of the Old Guard where he participated in providing military honors for funerals at Arlington National Cemetery and served at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Saint Barbara award and several more ribbons and medals.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morristown, TN where he served as a trustee and on the finance committee, Sunday school president, and Food Pantry Chairman. Darrell was also a member of the Masonic Hamblen Lodge No 767 and he was a member of the 32nd degree at Knoxville Scottish Rite.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lorraine Lawson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of the Home; daughter, Samantha Kaye Lawson of Orlando FL; Step-son, Jason Mann and wife Lori of Kingsport, TN; sister, Phyllis Tomlinson of Mt Carmel, TN; step grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Mann of Kingsport, TN; special friend, Lynn Hite; a niece and nephew, and extended family, and his church family; mother of his daughter, Julie Richardson of FL; and special fur baby, Starr who will miss him dearly.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Morristown, TN on Thursday February 8th, 2018 from 4 pm to 6 p.m. Funeral service will follow with Dr. Larry Parrott officiating and special music by Roger Maultby.

Graveside service with military rites to be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with members of his church as honorary pallbearers. His step grandson, Tyler Mann (of Trinity Memorial), will bear the honor of transporting him to his final resting place.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown, TN or Wounded Warrior Project.
