Dr. Charles Herbert Benton

November 16, 1925 - September 26, 2015

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, he attended Kansas University and graduated in 1948 with a B.S. in chemistry. From there, he did his graduate work at the University of Illinois, married and received is Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 1951.

His wife, Betty L. Benton, predeceased him in 2006. He joined Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York then Tennessee Eastman in Kingsport where he retired in 1988 as the Director of Health and Nutrition Research Division. He was a world traveler and professional photographer. After retirement, he wrote a guide book on international photographic competition.

He was a member of the Photographic Society of America, American Chemical Society, and Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines.

He is survived by two daughters; Karen Elgart of Windham, NH and Deborah Clevenger and her husband, A.B. of Blountville, TN; 3 grandchildren, Zachery, Hazel, and Rogan Elgart; and niece, Linda French Wilson of Overland Park, Kansas.

The family will receive friends on Monday (September 28, 2015) at Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home from 1 pm to 2 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Chad Roberts of Preaching Christ Church officiating. A private committal service will be held on Monday (September 28, 2015) at Oak Hill Cemetery.
